Bespoke kitchen with walk in pantry and wine room

This kitchen project was designed for a home undergoing extensive renovation work. Central to the design brief was a space for hosting friends and family. The owners enjoy cooking and wanted to create a kitchen space with plenty of work surface and a substantial seating area at the island, so they could chat to friends whilst preparing food. A pantry was an absolute priority, ideally to act as a storeroom and second prep kitchen that could be kept out of sight.

DESIGN SOLUTION

Working closely with the clients we helped configure the best layout for the new open plan kitchen space, including a walk-in pantry in what was previously the original kitchen and a separate wine room. The kitchen and pantry are linked by a secret door, designed to look like part of the kitchen and interior mouldings when closed. The mouldings were carefully matched and dummy hinges included to further the disguise. The door is a fun touch but also serves a purpose, balancing the kitchen design proportions in such a large room.

The large kitchen island is handmade using seamless frames with no joins or breaks. The oak breakfast bar can comfortably seat four creating a social, relaxed drinking or dining space. The island houses 2 dishwashers, fridge drawers, belfast sink and a Quooker Flex boiling tap. The owners chose a LaCanche Chemin Traditional 4 burner oven in a deep plum colour for a professional cooking experience.

The 4-door house hideaway cabinet is a popular addition to a kitchen. The bi-fold doors allow clear access and in this case is used to house glassware and crockery but can be purposed as a pantry cabinet or baking station.

FURTHER DETAILS

The pantry furniture is finished in Musk Pink from Zoffany, coordinating with the house hideaway in the main kitchen. Storage options include open oak shelving, hand carved apple boxes and a traditional cheese cabinet with traditional brass mesh screens. A second fridge freezer offers more space for chilled food storage whilst the prep sink and large work surface makes the pantry an excellent working space.

The dedicated drinks bar has open oak shelving for drinks display and hand silvered antique glass for a luxurious feel.  The pantry walls and cabinet backs are fully tiled in Carnival Stella from Fired Earth. Together with the granite cold shelving, this creates additional space for cold food storage. The wine room, beyond the pantry is temperature controlled for optimum storage conditions. The bespoke oak shelving allows storage of wines by the case, with 11 racked positions and 1 tilted shelf above for display purposes.
