Contemporary entrance hall and hallway

As well as working in rooms such as kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, we often design and make the finer details of a home including interior mouldings, wooden panelling and period doors. As part of a larger scale renovation project at this period property, we were asked to help out with these details, featured in the hallway and entrance halls. The clients wanted these areas to be fully modernised too, in a sympathetic way that was in keeping with the style of the house and with work we had completed in other rooms.

DESIGN SOLUTION

We used our collection of interior mouldings to agree designs for the coving, architrave, skirting and picture rail used throughout the property. We also designed a series of period doors for use in different positions in the property, both glazed and panelled. The house has a number of key hallway areas and we focussed attention on these to use the space in a practical, stylish way. In the first much used hallway area we added glazed doors and fanlight, embellished by a fully panelled lining and handles from Samuel Heath. The console table was added for practicality and the mirror to create symmetry. All were handmade and finished in Purbeck Stone by Farrow and Ball. In the second, larger hallway, we upgraded the downstairs cloakroom, designed and installed cabinetry and book shelving to add storage.

FURTHER DETAILS

The whole hallway area was tiled in limestone and decorated throughout by our in-house team in a mixture of Cornforth White and Strong White by Farrow & Ball, creating continuity and flow. We added a feature painted and oak bench seat, with lovely spade feet and a nicely proportioned panelled back. We also incorporated a small boot room area by the front door in the first hallway, again with oak topped bench seating, complete with umbrella hole. These lovely details add personality and purpose to this beautiful home.
