Luxurious bedroom and dressing room suite

The owners of this home created a larger bedroom space by knocking two adjoining rooms together. Their own building contractor looked after the building work in this case, whilst we were asked us to design furniture for the space, to include separate bedroom and dressing room areas. They wanted to create a luxurious, restful feel to the space with plenty of storage.

DESIGN SOLUTION

To maximise space, the dressing room was designed to include break-fronted wardrobes to either side creating expansive his and hers storage. Two freestanding dressing room islands were also included, with graduated drawers, upholstered seating and storage underneath. These not only look good, but are a great place to store accessories, jewellery, sun glasses and smaller folded items. We worked closely with the clients to specify the wardrobe interiors, which were handmade in oak with a combination of full and half hanging, open shelving, graduated drawers, inserts and shoe pull outs.   The oak hanging peg detail, has a pop-out mechanism and is the perfect place to hang clothing ready to wear. The substantial full-length mirror is carefully secured to lean against the wall. A combination of downlights and pendants creates the perfect lighting with a soothing neutral colour palette including furniture finished in Strong White and Purbeck Stone from Farrow & Ball.

FURTHER DETAILS

The bed headboard was upholstered using a panelled design, selected by the clients to create a design feature in the room. The hand-silvered, antique mirror glass gives a vintage edge to the room, working well with the furniture handles which are Mother of Pearl from Chloe Alberry. An elegant freestanding dressing table and footstool is positioned by the window to optimise natural light. The spade feet and drawer proportions tie into the cornicing and drawers of the other furniture in the room. One of the dressing table drawers has electrical sockets built in, so hair styling appliances can be used without messy cables on show. A cabinet opposite the bed was designed for a TV, fitted against the wall with an internal mechanism from which the TV rises up and neatly disappears when not in use.
